I made a very rough sound test for a Samsung soundbar HW-J250 right after unpacking it. I used the built-in speakers of Samsung UA55MU6400 (also bought only a few days earlier) as a reference and compared them here. I used the wireless connection between the TV and the speaker because moving away the Kef center and the Yamaha AV was too troublesome. I intended to give the soundbar to my mom to use with her KU6300. I recorded the clip on Galaxy S6 with the built-in mic. Sorry for the shake. My verdict is in the comment.

For me, the soundbar and the tv have different sound characteristics but I cannot say that the soundbar is an improvement. They are just different. The sound from the tv is wider and more… surround(?). The bass is also satisfying for a TV this thin. The sound from hw-j250 is more direct and it could be a lot louder which is no need in this room of mine. Simply put, if you have a similar tv set with similar settings the soundbar is not a good investment. The tv speakers are down-firing so I guess my wide tv stand and the wall behind the tv helps reflex the sound. When I use the soundbar with KU6300 which seems to have the same speakers' specifications as MU6400 (as indicated on Samsung's website – both set have 20w speakers, but no more details), but is mounted on a pillar stand, 1 meter high, away from the wall, the soundbar does improve the tv sound satisfyingly considering it's only 40$.
So stupid comments. The soundbar wins.
