I tried to show off games that are relevant right now either by being new or still active officially. What game would you have put on the list?
dofus retro is awesome it's a hidden gem mmo

As a veteran dofus and wakfu player for over 7 years, those 2 games are not worth it anymore, starting from mid 2019 they did terrible updates one after another, each class lost most of it's originality, instead of a class being first in healing or tanking for example, everything is just second rate of anything. And every new content release is followed by all the previous items getting nerfed and loosing all their value.
Don't play those 2 games they're a waste of time as of mid 2019, just my advice.
It's been a while, but Illarion Online.
Most people probably never heard of this roleplaying 2d game.
MapleStory, Survival Project, Grand Chase and Trickster Online are my top 2D MMORPG

Ultima Online went f2P and does have thousands of people playing it everyday. They also have a very friendly community. I like it. I joined a short time ago and it pretty fun to be so old.
